Well, I made the mistake of calling Jimmy Schaffer of Oak Ridge custom calls. I called to listen to one of his slate calls and ended up buying his Atomic 13 aluminum call. The call sounded too good to pass up. It's anodized and blasted. I've been wanting one of his calls for a while and can't wait to get my hands on it.

He's actually in New Jersey. Look him up on Facebook. I was messaging him on there and he told me to give him a call. Super nice guy, even for a yankee!

New Jersey? Man that's disappointing. I would have to buy a call if it was made in Oak Ridge TN and had reference to the Manhattan Project lol I'll look em up anyway.

I received the call Monday after ordering it on Thursday. I'm very impressed with the call. It is more of an aluminum-crystal hybrid than a true aluminum call. The call will play soft and loud. The clucks and purrs are easier to make than any other aluminum call I have. The call has a great rollover that definitely "thumps" your ears. The craftsmanship is outstanding. Jimmy included a letter thanking me for his business along with some business cards and a koozie.

I can't wait to try it out this spring! Here is a short sound clip paired with a Halloran one-piece Ipe striker:

Pull the trigger. If you don't like it, you can get your money back out of it. Also, the one for sale is last years model that has 9 holes on the bottom. This year he made them with 8 holes. I forget what he said that did to the sound. I think the older ones have more rasp. You could buy the plastic Dawkins and the Atomic 13 for the price of one Dawkins walnut aluminum.

Just buy both! Both are hot calls and you can get your money back if you don't like them!
 
Go with the Dawkins call then. I haven't hunted with the Atomic 13 so I can't attest to how deadly it is. The effectiveness of the Dawkins call has been well-documented.
 
talked to Jimmy, the difference is the new ones with the plugged hole have more rasp on the backend then the original....said he actually likes the new one better then the original slightly.

now I'm really torn cause i haven't heard the original one.
