870 20 Gauge Youth Choke/Load Recommendation

For cheap go Truglo SSX and Remington SF if you can find one. They are both awesome. You can get good results with a large number of chokes out there. Two shells that pattern great and hit hard are Federal Heavyweight #7 and any of the Hevishot 20s in #6, #7 or Magblend which is what we are using. Patterns as good as my 12. If Winchester makes a Longbeard shell for the 20 will have to switch when we run out of Hevi though.

post this in the choke/pattern board. the idea is if we keep all the questions like these over there then folks have 1 place to go and look for these questions and see a bunch of results without having to comb through the normal turkey talk stuff.

questions like this get asked a lot so if we can keep them in one area we can limit how often the same questions get asked.

I thought that forum was for only posting results and not asking for opinions. I started to, but that's how I read it. Sorry.

If a mod reads this, please feel free to move.

There is a Rem 20ga SF(super full) in ol gobbler classifieds for sale.. This is a very hard choke to find now a days. It shoots excellent in my 870 youth with the FED HWTs 6 or 7s.. You might want to look into it.

Larry is right. Choke/pattern board is for posting results not discussions.

actually it is for any discussion on the topic. this is not the OG version of the pattern board. It would be a good idea to try and keep all that discussion on that board to make things much easier to find. We don't have the numbers that OG has so i don't think it will be near the issue to find stuff here vs there. It would be MUCH easier to find it there then the random question on this board.

again i am not the board police and really am find either way, just looking at the long run it would be much easier to find stuff in a board that is specific to that area vs the general turkey forum. Besides I was the one that asked to have the board created so i can allow whatever rules i see fit hahahahah.

There is a pretty strong cult following for the 20 gauge and some that go smaller. You just have to know where to look. Technology improvements in ammo have made the smaller gauges very relevant for turkeys.

This is a great combination and is currently what I shoot. You can also get Hevy 13's No.7 as well. I have shot both and seen numbers around 135 - 165 in a 10" circle. I have also used and Indian Creek choke with Hevi 13's and that threw my best numbers. 193 in a 10" circle 40 yards. The only downside to that is that your pattern at 20 was the size of a baseball. Sumtoy makes a really good choke as well for a 20g. They throw really good numbers and a very even pattern with HWTs.
