I ended up getting on this bird yesterday and he liked to gobble and run. He finally lost me crossing hill and hollers and I don't know where he went to. This morning I get back about mid ways of our chase route from yesterday and get on the end of a pine ridge that is close to a mile long. It's flanked on both sides by some pretty virgin timber and makes for some good setting up since I always hold the high ground. I was standing about 100 yards from the crest of where it ends and dumps into some hardwoods and it was past fly down and no gobbles. I knew this bird was gobbling...... Somewhere.... And almost backed it to try another spot near where I found him yesterday when I heard wings flapping and saw a bird pitch down into the pines. I found the nearest tree and set up right there. 2 more birds pitched down and I started hearing this bird coming into hearing distance way out behind me coming up the holler. I mean he is 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and gobbling his head off but he is also gettin closer. I made a few soft calls to check the birds close to me and no answer so I spun on the tree and starting cutting loud. This triggered a boss hen who let loose on 5 minutes worth of cutting and yelping and she was coming to me. The gobbler is now on the ridge across from me and fired up but goes away and comes back a couple times. A couple minutes goes by and I hear wings again and then immediate drumming and a gobble..... CLOSE. He pitch across the steep holler right into my lap and was going to try and run me over had I not defended myself. He put on a good show drumming at gobbling in the pines and it was very loud. It was an awesome hunt. I walked down to the bird and I guess there was a hen that didn't know what to do about sugar daddy falling over because I was standing on his head and she was standing there at 15 yards watching it all go down.
