I shot the 3" TSS today as well as the 3.5" Long beard #5. Here is my report.

I have a scope on my gun so I generally shoot at 50 yds, as the power line easement on my property is 50 yds wide, and 8 clicks equal an inch at that range, so it makes the math easier :D . I put a piece of pressure treated ply wood that was leftover from a shooting house build and put a cardboard box that I had taped together down the center, so at that point it was double thick. I had a 20" circle and then put one of those splatter targets that is a picture of a turkey's upper body, neck, and head.

The long beard #5 put a pretty good amount of pellets in the target and the 20" circle (didn't count).

After patterning the LB XR I then put a piece of poster type paper over the cardboard and it had a 20" circle, same drill with the target.I shot the 3" #9 TSS and all i can say is wow. Absolutely ridiculous how many pellets hit the target and 20" circle.

Here is what sold me. I shot another splatter target with the LB XR after I shot the TSS and there were pellets that didn't penetrate the cardboard or at least got stuck in it. There were only about 5 pellets that punched through the plywood total and on 3 I am 95% sure it was #9 TSS and the other 2 I am 100% sure it was, because the pellets just got hung enough to not pass all the way through. That board is hard and bird shot at 50 is most likely not punching though it, but tiny #9 shot did. The LB dents it or gets stuck on the front side. The TSS penetrates it and in some cases passes through, so bones should not be an issue.

Oh yeah less recoil too...

I had similar results with 3 1/2 in #5 LB vs 8.5 TSS in 3 in 12 ga. An oak pallet was the back stop. The LB stuck in the oak pallet while many of the 8.5's punch through. With TSS you get pattern and punch.
