Very pleased with the #3 class (Rivals and 247 non-composite). Consistency over time is more important and also I believe no national champion has had less than top 10 class(es).

What do you consider a "good" class? Top 5, top 10, top 25? Player development is more important, but there are some things that can't be coached.

I would say a top 10 class and getting quality players. All joking aside I believe star avg. Is more important than overall rankings. Player development is important but it helps to have the right players to develop .. :)

Of course these rules don't apply to Bama that has had the #1 class for many years.... :(

you are correct Sir. the rankings go by total points of class.

avg is average star of players in class.

I don't think there's a hill of beans difference in the Top 5 -- it's all just subjective opinion anyway. I'd consider anything in the Top 10 elite. I agree it's all about development, but it's easier to to grill a good steak if you start with filet mignon. :D

I agree with you for the most part, but sometimes it's nice to have that 5 star who shows up and contributes immediately. Calvin Ridley is case-in-point; it he wasn't there to make Jake Coker's life easier and take some of the pressure off Derrick Henry, Bama's season might have ended differently.

You can have the top-rated class 5 years in a row, but if you don't get a player of need (Bama/LSU and a QB for example ;) ), then it really means little.

Then you have to hope for a transfer :tu: !

aka saban doesn't know what he's doing :rotf: :rotf:

Since 1996 every team that has won a national title except for Oklahoma in 2000 has had at least two top ten national signing classes in the four years before a title. So while signing a top ten recruiting class doesn't guarantee that you're going to win a national title -- indeed, there are plenty of teams that don't -- for 19 of the past 20 years, you can't win a title without at least two top ten recruiting classes.

More interestingly, every champion from the past ten years with the exception of Auburn in 2010 has had at least three top ten recruiting classes in the four years before it won a title.

of the 34 5-star players whom Saban has landed for Alabama since 2008, more than half are currently on the Crimson Tide.

That's insane

One of the reasons I love basketball so much is because physical ability doesn't trump all other aspects of the game. Anyone can beat anyone any night. It's all about getting hot, staying hot, and fundamentals.
As for the question in the original post, a "good" class for vandy is when a player decides to go there for sports! :)
