I have to be out that way later during Turkey season so I thought I might give it a try. I do not want your spot just looking for some general info.It looks like to me that you have to check in and unit 1 may or may not be open.I was hoping maybe some of you hunt the area and would help me out. I will assume the birds are like all other public land birds tough and hear every call man has to offer! Thanks!

So far it's been a bust.... birds have been tight lipped, maybe due to cold snaps.... Very little sign and seems to be someone everywhere I want to go.... or get walked on/crowded.

All I know to tell you is be there early.... it seems to have gotten worse and worse since I started hunting turkeys 7-8 years ago.... I despise public hunting land, but right now don't have much choice.

Unit #1 may or may not be open depending on the military training schedule, but dates are usually posted at the sign-in/out stations.... there are 3 to choose from.

I have hunted there a LOT, and so far my one day I spent on it this year has been an epic bust. It usually has a lot of birds, but I cant even find sign in the regular spots. I am sure they have just moved.
They have maps in the check in station, my advice is get your walking boots on and get away from the roads. There are killable birds there, I have called in a bunch there.

Thank you guys for the response. I know public land is tough.I hope it gets better for you as the season goes on. I will give it a try and do my best to get back where others will not be if that is possible!

I'm not trying to discourage you by any means..... it's getting very thick in the woods in most places.... a burn in some areas of those woods is much needed in my opinion. When I say get there early, I mean early.... I have seen people there at 4-4:30 in the morning to get in a parking area before someone else.

Any open hardwoods, or fresh burns are GREAT places to hunt there.
