Anyone having any luck with hunts in the afternoon? The only times I can get out to chase the gobblers is in the afternoon since coaching soccer and baseball taking up the mornings. I've went last weekend and heard nothing but the wind. I hunt in Davidson/Cheatham area. Thanks for the input.

I killed one last friday afternoon after work. They were still flocked up good but got lucky and got one. I will be out there again this afternoon. They still aren't being real vocal here but use your binos and if they aren't working to you move on them. Good luck.

I've tried a few times after work but no luck here.

See a bunch as they are still in large groups everywhere I've seen. I'm ready for these hens to go get on nest.

Yea I'm starting to see more single birds roaming around just riding the roads. The bird I killed last wk was with a flock of 6 longbeards, 9 jakes, and 22 hens. I ended up calling in two more kills off that flock sat. and sun. but they were not vocal and basically we were in the right spot. I'm hitting another place today where I found some birds that don't seem to be piled together as much so we will see.

I have been having better luck after 12. The bird I killed was at 12:15pm and the other set of 2 year olds Ive called in range were at 1:30pm. Didnt have a great shot so they got a pass.

I got in the woods last Thursday at 5pm and had a bird gobbling at 515 pm and dead at 540pm. I usually don't hear as many gobbles but see more activity in the afternoon

I used too hunt alot in the afternoons. Killed a few and if you get one to gobble he will likely die but the flip side of that is constantly disturbing your property. One year i decided to quit going in the afternoons and my success in mornings jumped way up. Im not saying i wont go midday but no more afternoons for me. JMO

I found them yesterday but they were not vocal but were very active in the love department. It was a group of 2 lbeards and 14 hens. The strutter wore himself out breeding in a wheat field. I just had to watch the show woods are still too open on this property to be moving alot. I got a good understanding of where they want to be in the evenings though and lord willing I will be sitting in front of them tomorrow afternoon.
