Age and score?

holy crap, you grow some big-bodied 2.5 y/o's on Ames! Never would have crossed my mind that deer was 2.5

Missed the score by a couple inches, tho :)

Me too guys, Mike is swearing that it's the deer that his friend killed, he said that the body is actually very small , but I have a lot of other deer at this spot too and this deer is as big or bigger than any of them. I just wonder if it was an offspring of this buck.

All we can do is compare pics and this pic looks identical to the buck my buddy killed from the same area. I'm not saying there isn't room for mistaken identity but after blowing up the pics I'd bet he's the same buck. Ames aged him at 2.5 years old. He didn't weigh but 120 something pounds which makes his rack appear much larger. If it is he might have been a hoss down the road.

I think this is a good example of what happens when somebody gets too caught up in the text book on aging teeth. We see it all the time on here when somebody posts a jawbone and then a pic of the buck. Of course those aging by the jawbone alone don't have the benefit of considering the whole picture...but that shouldn't be the case at Ames, where you have the whole deer to go off of.

I have looked through all of the albums on the Ames page. Some of the 2 year olds posted definitely look they are 2 years old. But some look a couple years older with the body weights to back that up. I hope you all have an appeals process where you can send the teeth off to a lab or something if you want to contest the fine for a buck that is aged too young and underscores, but clearly appears to have been at least 4 years old.

I don't buy for one second that that buck is 2.5
I think he's 3.5 and after looking at the ames trophy room, I think that this is definitely the buck that Don killed.

I've disagreed with a lot of the ages, and scores too for that matter over the years but year after seeing the trophy room pic it id definitely the deer.

I looked at the Ames trophy room, it's definitely the same buck that the Don fellow killed. As far as age, that pic is terrible for aging that deer. I give my best guess at 3.5 in your other thread, but that was a complete guess at best. That deer is close to the camera and quartering away, so no way to tell body weight or any characteristics needed to age a deer. But I will bet my paycheck still, that the two deer in your other post are different deer.
