Just my second trip out this year, and really wasn't expecting to hear one, as they are notoriously late gobblers in my area.

I arrived at perfect gobble time. After hearing crows, etc., and hearing nothing, I gave just a short owl hoot. Ahh, the thrill that went through my body when I was greeted with a hearty gobble less than 200 yds away.

His direction was in line with the breaking-dawn sky to the east. What a beautiful sight! I couldn't resist pulling one more from him, before heading back to the truck.

By this time, he was cranking to crows, etc. I left with a smile on my face! I will be taking a juvy to this location, most likely, next week!

It really is the best sound, time of year, etc in nature. I got to hear it yesterday morning in GA while doing some pre season work where I hunt. Can't wait to hit the woods with a shotgun next week

The first gobble of the year always brings a smile.

I know you are not one to post up a lot of pics etc of your hunts, but do post up some updates of how things are going. Good luck!
Agree. I really like to see the places other people hunt: terrain, vegetation, dirt, rocks, water, old homesteads. I'm the absolute worst for taking pics but am gonna make a concerted effort going forward to capture more moments in the field.

They were fired up on the limb this morning here. I can't wait for the opener.

Thanks that pic was taken from my back patio, thought it was cool with the fog in the bottom.
