Im planning a trip to open up my season early. I talked with a Biologists in Al and he said OCOLOOCO WMA was pretty good hunting and Skyline. If anyone knows of any good wma's and would share a few tips I would appreciate it.

Early season AL turkey hunting is EXTREMELY tough, especially on public land. Make it a fun trip and an excuse to get out early but dont be surprised if they are not vocal.

I hunt around Talladega, its tough but very fun.

I assume you mean Oakmulgee? If so it closes around noon to hunting. Never heard of the other one.

I spent a ton of time in my younger days running around Tuskegee and killed a pile of birds in the process. It's in between Montgomery and Auburn near Tallassee

Holy crap that's funny. I grew up hunting in Fort Davis which is 10 mins south of Tuskegee on 29! Town is actually named after my family and still have land there I try to get out an hunt each year!

I would wait until about the first of April, Oakmulgee won't be near as crowded then... Gotta give them Arkansas boys time to get outta there.
And although Oakmulgee closes at noon, or something like that, you can still hunt the national forest all day... Birds can be very tough down there tho...

The biologist may have meant Choccolocco. Skyline and Choccolocco have a lot of man days listed in reports over the last several years.

Lauderdale is pretty good. All of the WMA(s) get hit pretty hard the first couple of weekends.

That makes more sense, but I still have never heard of Skyline? Where is it at?

Northeast Alabama about an 45 minutes east of Huntsville, bout 40k acres of mountainous terrain. No comment on the turkey population :)

That's awesome, we hunted for years on a place just south of Tuskegee on some big creek with sand bars and a sand bottom. Not only was hunting great, but the fishing in that creek was outstanding for bass, if you didn't get snake bit. I think it was called ufappi or something like that
