Spent three days in southern Alabama on Conecuh National Forest and Perdido WMA. All I can say was it was a difficult trip. Didn't hear a single bird gobble and only saw one track. Talked to a few locals and they weren't hearing or seeing much either. Had a good time exploring some new land and being in the woods.

The only turkey sign I have ever seen in Conechu NF are the NWTF signs they have hanging up. They do have giant snakes though.

That stinks man. Reminds me of a MS trip I took a few years back on public land. I've gotten lazy in my old age and watch hunting shows instead till TN season starts!

National Forests usually are not good turkey habitat.
This is true depending on location. The sections of Virginia and Tenn I know really well it's not good habitat. Food is the biggest thing and laurel and Rocky terrain doesn't make for very good turkey habitat. Bear love it though. In the Midwest it blows my mind how many birds I've heard and seen while deer hunting. Take North Cherokee national forest. There's like 365000 acres. On a good year the kill is around 120 birds. That's pathetic. Last year it was half that. That's a bird every 3-6000 acres
