I had a Remington SP-10 I hunted with when I thought I needed firepower and range to be successful. I shot a turkey's head completely off and decided I didn't need that much gun so I downsized and hunt with a 3" 12 gauge. I believe a 20 gauge is plenty of gun but might get you in trouble if you are not very familiar with the gun and besides I still get so excited I might cripple a bird. I loved my 10 Gauge it actually didn't have the recoil the 12 gauge delivers but it's overkill and will tempt you to make a shot you probably wouldn't take with a lighter gun.
