All this 20 ya and tss hype going on. If a person is shooting a 12 and getting good consistent patterns with say a 3" hevi 6 at 45-50 is there any need to shoot the tss?

I am however shooting tss in the little Stevens 410 with fixed full choke I got for my 8 year old. And it's a sure nuff killer at 30 maybe even more.

Absolutely not. If you have a good pattern out to 50 and you're not gonna be shooting any farther than that. I don't see any reason to switch

If your killing deer at 100 yds with a lever action iron sighted 30-30, there's no reason to switch either. It comes down to what you want. TSS is a significant improvement IMO from the standard loads. Nine out of ten times it doesn't matter. But, we owe it to the game if we can kill them more efficiently.

I shot 3.5" 12ga lead for years. The only reason I switched to a 20ga and TSS is a lighter gun to pack around and it doesn't knock the fillings out of my teeth when I pull the trigger. And it's still a solid 40 yard gun. To answer your question, if your happy with your gun and load, then no need to switch.

I would have no problem just continuing to use the shells I had in stock,
but when it comes time to buy new turkey shells,
nothing but TSS for me.
It's significantly superior,
and for so few shots fired with turkey hunting,
the higher cost per shell becomes less significant.

After saying that, I also believe having an optical sight (for me)
and having it precisely sighted in for the turkey loads I'm using,
is of more value
than whatever loads I'm shooting.

If I were using a simple bead front sight on my turkey gun,
I'd be inclined to hunt with a more open choke,
and capitalize off the dense patterns of #9 TSS
which can kinda allow a person to have his cake & eat it too
i.e. bigger open-choked patterns, still have 40-plus yard range.

Agree with the others. I shoot tss in my 20 but actually get great patterns with 3" mag blends in my 12 so felt no need to spend the money to load the 12 with tss
