I went to search for a few spots for when season opened. I decided where to go after a quick call to my twra guy just for a little incite. Less than 30 feet from the truck 7 turkeys flew right in. I ended up less than 20feet from a blue headed wonder. My boy and i followed another bird on the ground for about 30. We crossed the grounded bird multiple times and would have had two possible kill shots if it had been season.

It turned into s very satisfying trip.

I try not to incite those TWRA guys, though they can offer some helpful insight if approached correctly. What area you scouting?

Now that you know the place then stay out of it until season. Maybe go a few days before opener and get to a good listening spot where you can hear them on the roost and get back to the truck without spooking em. Then you know just the area to set up when season opens. I scouted a new area today in public land while fishing a creek. I have to go in about a month to listen to see if birds roost there or not.

How can you tell about the roosting patterns?

Mid March or so, ease to just within earshot of the area and listen for gobbles. Dont take calls and dont wear camo. Do that a couple times and you'll know all you need to about roosting patterns.
