Got off work at 4pm and decided to go to a farm in obion county. I got out to the spot where I had seen 3 toms opening weekend. As I created the hill scanning slowly to avoid busting any turkey I found there were cows where I wanted to setup. So I relocated to the bottoms about 75 ft below. Once I got to the first location I saw the turkeys I'll be darn if 50 head of cattle didnt come barreling down the hill. My confidence was slim to begin with now its nonexistent. I decided to trek back up the hillside though a different hill. I got to a section of pasture near the pines when I look out across the pasture and seen ol tom blowed up not 50 yds from where I had just been standing. I moved up to the pines and tried to setup. I lost the tom and inched up into a slight high spot in an effort to spot the tom when i caught hens closing on me at 70 yds. I was toast. They immediately about faced and began walking quickly away. I had a strutter decoy with me and knew the tom did not see me so I back tracked 20 yds where I had layed the decoy down and progressed up the hill to try and find the tom. I then spotted the 5 hens trying to escape me when I observed the Tom following them. I got to a position I thought he could see me and then mouth gobbled. He came running from about 250 yds into 10 steps. I had to call off his charge for fear he was gonna attack me. I've never promoted fanning nor did I set out to ever try it, but it just happened. I have to say it was a rush watching that bird charge and me dropping it close range for my 1st bird of the year in a 20 minute hunt.
