Okay, so my husand and I had been all over the mountain looking for turkeys...calling, walking, calling again, looking for scrathes, etc. We had seen no sign at all so we headed down the mountain. On the way out, we stopped one last time and called. We heard at least 4 call back to us. We couldn't tell if they were hens or jakes but they were calling like crazy back to us. I am thinking they were about 100 yards away from us just over a little hill. He told me to be very quiet, sneak over behind a downed tree and set up. He set out a decoy got behind me and continued calling. We could hear them calling and getting closer. Just as we heard them getting close to the crest of the little hill to come into sight....they went totally QUIET! We never saw them, never heard them run away, and never heard them again.
What in the world??? The only thing I could figure was that my gun barrel reflection spooked them maybe? I don't know much about turkey hunting, but I would say I got busted!
