Last day of ML season, 20 degrees, and a frozen trigger on my ML. 40 yards away. Broadside.

That's why they call it a primitive weapon. I had a fail to fire once on a good buck. It sucks! I also had a frozen firing pin once on my Browning A bolt. When it's real cold, I'll drop the hammer on a empty chamber to check it. Better luck next time.

The ML is an older Knight LK-93 Wolverine. Since I converted it to the 209 primer and became meticulous about my cleaning procedures, it has been extremely reliable. And if I could only hunt WT's with one gun, it would be this ML. It is a deer killing machine, well, except for this time!! :)

I hunted with it the week before in the rain. Afterwards, I unloaded it, ran some dry patches down the barrel, checked the breech plug, and put it in the case. I guess there was some moisture in the trigger mechanism that didn't evaporate and froze in the 20 degree weather. I wouldn't expect gun oil to freeze at 20 degrees, but that is a possibility. Or, it coulda been in a bind for some other reason. What I know for sure is I pulled it several times and the trigger would not move.

Of course I fiddled with the hammer and both safeties for the 3 minutes he stood there, all to no avail. After he ran off, I fiddled some more and dry-fired it several times. Oh well, gotta add one more step to my meticulous procedure!

Gotta watch your lubes and greases. There are a bunch out there that should not be used in cold weather.

I feel for you! I missed an opportunity to take a great Iowa buck when my ML would not fire. The firing mechanism was so cold that when I pulled the trigger the slide pin moved forward at such slow stroke rate that it would not fire.

Dang, that's a heartbreaker. I've got one of those, also converted to 209's. I've never missed a deer with it, would shoot it against any other blackpowder MZ.

Hey Rock, all I've ever used is Rem Oil.

Hey Carlos, love mine. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Gonna clean the trigger mechanism now. I've heard something like brake cleaner works pretty good.

Ballistol for me.

Rem oil has slowed my old 1100 down to malfunction back a thousand years ago (it seems) hunting ducks/geese in the frozen Chosen. I have some rem oil laying around but don't use it, except outside any action/moving parts, no matter what the specs say...
