Every year there seems to be a reminder about wearing those safety harnesses and people offer up extras for free. I recently bought a couple of buddy stands and don't need the harness that came with them as I use a Spider harness. If someone is in need of one let me know and I'll get it to you. Don't risk being severely injured or killed!

Do you all mostly wear the ones that comes with the tree stands or are you buying other harnesses? Hunter Safety Systems or something along those lines?
I've got a Big Game and Rivers Edge (I think) ladder stands that both came with harnesses and I'm not wild about them. If there are better options I'd be happy to upgrade but if they're all pretty much the same then I'll waste that money on something else.

All the aftermarket ones are better than the ones that come with treestands.

Ok, first off, I'm not recommending any specific item for any specific purpose, what you do is your responsibility to research and make your own decisions for yourself. But, this is what I do.
My lifelines are 11mm (8400lbs) arborist climbing rope for the main line and 8 mm (3800lbs) accessory cord for the prussic knot, the carabiner is a Black Diamond screw lock. 125 ft will make about 6 lines if you cut the main line in equal lengths. About 40 ft is needed of the 8mm to make the prussic knots. Total cost per line is about $13.00 minus the cost of the carabiner and climbing harness. Those are another $35.00 and on up or so.
I set the ropes on all my stands about now and take them down in January.
The harness with the suspenders is put on at the house before I leave, the red rope is tied on the tree when I get to height as a second line and I also use it for ground to ground tie on when using a climbing stand.
DO NOT use ropes that are not climbing rated , same with the carabiner and climbing harness. Some ropes at tcs, lowes or elsewhere may have the woven cover sheath on the ropes but they ARE NOT climbing rated.
These are a very cheap, fast and easy life insurance policy.
Have a fun and safe season.

I purchase my own about every 3 years. I flew medical helicopters for over 22 years and hauled several hunters to the Level 1 Trauma centers over the years. Not one was wearing a harness when they fell. There were a few that might not walk again. Wear the harness gang!

I bought a Spider harness because it's very light and easy to get off

I have a nice hunters safety system vest type harness that's a couple years old I will gladly give someone if they will wear it.

I fell 22ft from a lock on stand 15 years ago, was very lucky to walk away with an only a broken wrist.

Harness is very similar to this one

good price points. I ordered and installed a half dozen of their lifeline ropes this summer. i had a rep reach out to me the day i received them making sure it was sufficient. In today's world that goes a long way with me. I will use their products again for sure.

Party foul. Looks like they are out of stock but the page is worth a save.

I Highly recommend customizing your harness a bit to fit your needs!

I have everything paracorded to mine, my gps is my most valuable piece of equipment. it's got it's paracorded loop on my non buttstock shoulder. My phone case is on my shooting side but low enough to be out of the way. My buck grunt and doe bleat and a canister with milkweed are paracorded and put in a pocket. I keep the lanyard on one side in its pocket and my lineman's belt on the other. I have a holster for my pistol and a pouch for my range finder.

Everything is secured and has a specific spot. I literally can run through a briar patch in the dark upside down, falling and crawling and can't lose anything. I've lost stuff in the past. I've had to go with my gps and retrace my steps sometimes for miles. It's not fun and losing stuff gets expensive.

Adding a phone pouch to my harness is the easiest and best decision I've ever made. If I fall there's a very good chance my phone will be securely in its pouch.

If you fall and can't get back up, and your phone is in your lap, it's not gonna do you any good laying in the leaves while you dangle.

My phone has fallen out of chest pockets and getting a phone in and out of pants pockets with a harness on is a real chore. A phone in your pants pocket also tends to chaff on long walks.

I wear hip boots and wade through a lot of water. I have been soaked from waist down before after a fall or mishap. I like having my phone higher on my body so it has a better chance of staying dry.

Wear a harness and customize it to work for you! adding a phone pouch is a cheap solution that could keep your phone from sliding off your lap and banging off your stand when that big buck comes through!
