Turkey hunting never gets old. I friggin love it!
I heard a few birds gobbling this morning and decided to go after this one. We went back and forth for about an hour or so. He was on the edge of a grown up field near one of my food plots. I was above him in some hardwoods with a cedar thicket behind me. He kept gobbling but he did not want to come up that hill. the last time he gobbled I could tell that he was making his way to the food plot. I jumped up and moved as fast as I could to get on the other side of the food plot using the topography to keep me hidden. I sat down about 50 yards from the plot next to a big red oak looking up to the plot. The elevation change was just enough where I could not see the field and if he was there, he would not be able to see me. I yelped on my slate and he cut me off with a gobble. I put my call down and got my gun ready. He gobbled again and I could tell he was coming. A few seconds later I saw his head coming over the hill and he made his way into the hardwoods looking for that hen. Once he got to about 30 yards, I had a clear shot and put him down. He had a 10.5" beard, 1 1/4" spurs and weighed 21 pounds. What an awesome hunt! I am also posting a few other pics from this week. I love this time of year!
