I set up a spinning rod/reel with braid to be used for bass fishing. I want to be able to cast the smaller lighter lures as well as larger ones. I put on 50 lb. SpiderWire EZ Braid (12 lb. mono diameter)and it worked well with a spinner bait, but not so good with a jointed Rapala.

What should I try? 20lb. braid?

Are you wanting more sensitivity , fishing rough cover or just a braid fan? - if it was me I would just stick with monofilament on spinning gear - fluorocarbon for some situations - once again just my opinion

I recently used some Power Pro Super8Slick braided line in 30# test. The diameter on it is 8# test. It cast well.

I like the Power Pro better than the SpiderWire.

what scn said!! power pro cast like mono and does not dig into the spool.

I have heard that Berkley nano stuff casts a country mile with light lures. It's white and real slick. Only problem I have heard is knots slip but once you get that figured out you should be good. Almost bought some but I'm cheap and went with good ol Trilene 4 lb.

My guide in Lousianna put me onto the Berkley Nanofil - it is all he fishes with on his spinning reels.

I have fished it on two different saltwater trips this summer for Snook, Redfish, and Trout. It casts a mile, very sensitive, and strong.

I was impressed enough to put it on two of my reels.

I normally use 30 lb Power Pro on a spinning reel and either use straight to the bait or tie a fluorocarbon leader with a J-knot depending on the situation.

There you go, slick 8 in 30 lb test is about perfect for spinning reels. I don't go much smaller as it tends to knot up and bind much worst when its very small diameter.
