I posted in a thread awhile back that I personally know 3 guys that have had IC chokes blow apart on them... Well it has happened to a guy on OG and this time it appears his barrel has been damaged.. If you would like to see pics check it out on OG..... Kicks Gobblin Thunder all the way for me!!!!!

not sure but i would be wary of buying one now. that's the last thing i want to happen. my uncle just bought one not to long ago. and i shot it through my gun and it shot great not as good as my jelly head but i hope it doesn't blow up his Mossberg.

Glad I've been loyal to kicks all these years.

I wonder if part of this is a result of shooting non toxic shot in a very constricted choke, the shot doesn't compress because its too hard and all that pressure causes failure. It may happen on the first shot or the 100th. Just a thought I've had for a while

I had some bad POI POA issues with the one I had. It's a nice choke but they are dangerous to shoot it seems. That's the 4th one I've seen split or crack which is 4 more then all the rest I've seen combined

Here is the pic of a MAD one which IC made for them.

That is scary! Had a comp n choke blow on me a few yrs back...sent a piece of shrapnel through the middle part of my hair! Why one should wear safety glasses

I'm a kicks man, those ic chokes are nice but I think all the ports make a weak point.

Kicks are some beefy chokes

The failure was due to a bad batch of metal if I remember correctly.... that is why they started making them from Stainless Steel a few years ago.... If you have a problem with one of the older ones, you can contact them and they will replace it with a newer one, again if I remember correctly.

Just a thought, and that's great and all, but this could result in a serious injury or death. Replacing a choke is hardly a worthy reason to applaud them for fine custome service

Just one mans opinion

I have one for a 935 only because Ifound it on sale for $30 and it shoots nice, but its on a gun I take once or twice a year

I never applauded their customer service.... just stated the experience that was given by some customers that had experienced the failure in the past....

I have one myself and so far have not had an issue.... but I shoot mostly small shot through it too...

From all my conversations in the past with the guys at Kicks this is the reason they do not recommend shooting HTL thru their chokes. HTL is very hard where lead is more forgiving..... I guess it could happen to any of them but like Ren said this is 4 more than I have heard of from all of the other manufacturers combined....I just can't believe it's a fluke, seems like a possible flaw in the design.. And if I read the thread right on OG, IC does not want to accept responsibility for the damaged barrel....

I'm with Grizzly, all the ones I have ever seen or heard of that split were the older ones made out of chrome moly I think. I have never to my knowledge seen one of the newer model stainless steel ones split. I saw that thread on OG about the split barrel and think its a bunch of bull. Indian Creek should have stepped up to the plate and admitted that their choke caused that. That barrel should have been replaced on their dime. I also think Indian Creek should have done a major recall to remove as many of the older model chokes out of circulation as possible and replaced them with the stainless steel models. They shouldn't just wait and hope maybe people won't notice they have a older one so they won't have to replace it, jmo.

I agree, when there is a flaw that is a safety hazard like that, they should do a recall

Someone on aldeer posted one a few weeks ago that had cracked also.
I agree there is definitely a design flaw.

I have had one kicks that failed, the choke skirt where it threaded down flush with the barrel. It was to thick and the shot caught it and folded it in.

Luckily I took it out before I shot any more, charlie went out of his way to help me.

Which Comp n Choke? That is what I shoot in my Mossberg.

Are yall familiar with the bird bomb shotgun shells? If not, here is how they work: They look kinda like a regular shotgun shell except when you shoot them, they shoot a wad of explosives out to about 150 yards or so. approximately 2 seconds after the shot, the explosives go off. Well a buddy and I were playing with them and he shot one through his turkey gun with a rhino extended choke. The explosive charge HUNG UP IN THE CHOKE and exploded! No harm done other than to our ears and the gun and choke are no worse for wear. I cant see ANY other choke being able to take that and not look like a banana peel!
