Had a quick and easy hunt this afternoon. Tried to get the wife to tag along but she declined the invitation. She wishes she had gone now lol.
Not much of a "hunt" but it was fun and exciting. I decided to sit in one of my shooting houses overlooking a food plot with Winter Wheat and clover. The Wheat is putting on seed so I was curious to see if the Turkeys were eating it, wasn't really expecting to see anything let alone a Gobbler.
I got settled in and gave a few calls on my box call and went silent. Not five minutes later two Jakes entered the far end of the plot, and yep, they were eating the Wheat. I heard something coming down the ridge to my right and saw two more Jakes making there way to the plot with a Tom bringing up the rear.
They picked around for awhile and finally old Tom got into range, the old Remington 870 did it's magic and Turkey #2 was on the ground.
I felt a little guilty about killing him the way I did but like the saying goes "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush".
I'm done for the year, i've reached my self imposed limit on my 60 acres. May talk the wife into going a time or two though.
