I was in Area 46 both days......yesterday I met a guy from Bama, his hearing was far better than mine, we talked as we listened......then a 3rd guy showed up....I heard a bird gobble to our right....and figured 3 was a crowd....so I started going that way....Bama guy said he was going in the direction of the birds that he heard when I showed up......well the third guy evidently wanted to go after the birds I was hearing....I kept turning around and in general he kept following.....I got in the woods and set up.....had a hen fly down to me.....but the toms shut up.....birds fired up down in the impact area, so I moved on.....I called in 10 jakes, but the mature birds stayed in the impact area and sounded like they went to 49.....I walked all around 46 and blind call, but nothing responded after 9am.
Today I went to the same area where I heard the initial birds respond yesterday.....but they were over by the pond......when they flew down they stopped gobbling.....and I assume they went to 49 again because I heard 5 shots?????????????? Not sure if that means there are no birds left....or they were spraying/praying......I didn't see any happy hunters by their trucks when I left to go to church.
Excited that TN opens on Saturday....and that I have two personal days at work to use.....saving those for two weeks from now when birds start losing their hens.....
