Purchased this caliper for my wife in a Remington Model 7 Loved the way it shot , So I purchased a 2nd one for myself to shoot. my model 7 has a 18.5" 1:9 twist barrel on it and I have yet to find a load this rifle likes. anyone else shooting this caliper

I got a Model 7 youth in .260, but haven't shot it yet. I did quite a bit of reading on it, and there were several that said they had accuracy issues. Remington went to the 20 inch barrel, but most people found it was a problem with the stock touching the barrel. They free floated the barrel, and their groups tightened up immediately.

I have killed a bunch of deer and some coyotes with my .260 Ruger M77. I use Hornady 129g interlock bullets over RL 19 mostly. The .260 is a super round that will handle 90+% of the average shooter's rifle needs-and do it efficiently.

I have one in a 700 dropped a nice 11 point last year at 175 yards. I was using 120gr bullets would have look at my notes to see what powder I used.

a friend of mine has this Sako 75 Varmint with set trigger in 260 Rem,with NXS 8-32x56 Nightforce scope,,shooting the 130 Berger and H414 powder in Lapua brass is as accurate a factory barreled rifle I have shot,,shot some others that would shoot as good but none any better..

it will make most 308`s look silly past about 650 yards,,

I've got 2 Model 7s in .260.

Both mine are 20 inch barrels. The thing with the Model 7s is the barrel is a very thin contour, after 2 or 3 rounds it gets super hot and starts wandering. When I sight in Model 7s, I wait 15-20 minutes between shots and try to shoot on cool days, 60 degrees or below.

I have a Sako 75 Stainless in .260 and it is by far my favorite caliber. I shoot Nosler 120gr BT using a stiff load of IMR 4350. I couldn't ask for more out of a small caliber.

I also have a Mdl 7 Rem. It was a little finicky finding the right load. Finally settled on 42 gr of IMR 4350 with a Hornady 129 gr SST. A few grains off of max but this load is very accurate in my gun. Every deer that was shot at with this load has died. Most within sight.

I bought a .243 Kimber Stainless Classic just to rebarrel to a 260 or 260 Ackley. IMO it will make a perfect deer rifle for up close to way out. I think the reason that a lot of early model 7s tend to have accuracy issues is the 1-9" twist does not always do well with 140 gr bullets. A 1-8" or 1-8.5" tends to do better with 140 gr bullets.

I had a m77 in 260. Wish I hadn't sold it. Mine liked 129gr sst's but can't remember the powder.

For the life of me, it baffles me why more adults don't choose this round for their kids.

It baffles me why more adults don't choose it for themselves. The next bolt action I buy will be a .260.

sharp gun, but with that bulk it would not be useful for anything but punching paper. i would love to find an ultra light version of that gun but sako doesn't make one that i can find

put 7mm08 or 260 i the classifieds and it will last about 10 minutes. a 300 mag or 7 mag will rot in there. short actions make sense- short, light, fast

IMO it doesnt handle any worse than a Rem 700 BDL custom Deluxe in a 7mag or 300 win mag,
I can pack it to my shooting house on my 4 wheeler and shoot deer with it no problem,,but shootin steel plates prone out to 1000-1200 yards it is very accurate and the 8-32 NXS will track to the ninth degree and back time and again,,it will shoot the 130 Berger less than one inch at 300 and quart oil cans at 600 is not real hard,,

Love my Sako 75 SS in .260. The only negative is the 1/9 twist barrel. It's the most accurate factory rig I own.
