Want to head out around lunch, but this being my first year I am not sure if that is a good time of day to hunt.

Can anybody tell me if the high winds, sun, ect....conditions of the day would make it a good or bad day to go?

High winds aren't great but if you can strike one up or catch a Tom in a field then you have better than normal odds of calling it in, usually hens have left the toms leaving them lonely and looking

i HATE hunting in the wind cause you cant hear anything...however you cant kill them from the couch and if you dont go then you have 0% chance of being successful

It was silent this morning where I was. In my experience, wind tends to put them in the bottoms. Just be aware that if you hear one on a windy day, he's closer than he may sound. Start soft, but be prepared to call a little louder. They may not be where you typically find them, but rest assured that they're out and about somewhere.

If it's any help, I just saw 6 long-beards (one was dragging the grass!) in a field where I always see turkeys. It's private land, but it goes to show that they're out, and some will be right where they've been.
