I picked up a Handi-Rifle in .22 Hornet, 1 in 12 twist. Anybody have any pet loads or bullet recommendations? Just going to use it as a varmint gun.

Thanks.

I started reloading for my Hornet and this seems to be the most popular Hornet load from those in the know. Use Lee Collet dies to give you better brass longevity. 13.0 gr Lil Gun with a 35gr Hornaday V-max #22252 and 6-1/2 Remington primer. The 13.0 gr of Lil Gun will end up giving me a compressed powder charge so I backed off to 12.0 on mine although they say the compressed charge wont hurt. I am using CCI 400 SR primers because that is what I have on hand. I am using Privi cases because I ended up buying 6 boxes to get me started. Again those in the know are using Remington cases, probably buying the bulk brass. My Privi seems to be holding up well and actually the factory ammo shoots almost as well as the hand loads. The factory loads give me 1" to 1-1/2" groups at 100yds and the hand loads I can down to 1/2" to 1" groups. This is out of my CZ527 with a Sightron 12x42AO fixed scope.

I use H110 in my Hornet with all the various bullet weights. I would use Lil' Gun but I already had a large container of H110 on hand so that's what I use. Before Lil' Gun came along it was one of the top velocity producers for the Hornet.

Wow.. I'm bringing up an old thread here! Just picked up a beautiful Browning 1885 Low Wall .22 Hornet. Was also able to acquire a 3-die set, around 1000 brass.. and bullets. A buddy of mine is a helluva loader so he's working on getting me going here.. and has lots of H110 so we're going that route. Any special "hornet loader advice"? Most of the bullets I got we're 40's-45's. Did get one box of 100/50's.

Lil Gun is the powder for the 22 hornet. I also use it in my 221 fireball. Be careful from using moly coated to reg copper bullets as the pressure will increase dramatically in these cals. Great accuracy in both cal with Lilgun powder.
