Such as a shaker, tube, etc for a locator call? Ive always thought about it, just never have bought one to try. I dont have to worry about calling up other hunters at a few place I hunt. Like to hear everyone elses experiences. I gobbled back at a bird yesterday just with my mouth and he hammered right back lol

i have sometimes on henned up birds, sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. i dont use the gobbler call but a jake call with it. but never on public land.

I have the shaker type. I've used it to locate birds right after sun set and also in the morning as a locator. It doesn't work every time, but what call does, but I have had good success.

I've used it as a call also. Last year I had a dominant bird that let two other toms strut with him. They stayed with about all the hens and even had about 5 jakes with them. I saw several times a different longbeard come out and strut in the field, and the group of toms and jakes would come run them off.

I used the call to make the dominate birds mad and come try to run me off.

I have used it on a dominant bird as well and it worked. Sometimes it works as a locator and sometimes it dont just like any other.

Did it work?
They did come to investigate several times. Funny thing was that it was like the toms were sending the jakes to run off the other bird. So, most of the time it was the jakes that came into range while the toms stayed out about 75 yards. I just couldn't shoot one of the jakes when I had 3 strutters standing out there.

I have one of the shacker calls, but i have learned to gobble wih my mouth. My experience with the call is that if i get really fired up gobbling, the hens will move my way. This also brings the gobbler. But I have not had a gobbler come in alone to the call.

I had great success with my shaker call last season. (on private land) I killed 2 Toms last year with the same scenario. Both were henned up and would not come to calls. I waved my jake fan and hit my shaker call a couple times and both birds ran in to the shotgun.

i personally dont like the shaker style. If you can learn it on a tube call it sounds much more realistic and you can jake yelp and cut to even add more to it.

Don't use a tube call. With practice, the shaker can make very realistic gobbles.

i didnt mean that shakers dont, but with a tube call you have more control over the sound you want. You can Jake gobble or adult gobble. In addition you have control over the tone and pitch with a tube call so all in all it is a harder call to learn but much more flexible and useable is all.

I never use one. Have seen a few times where I would have tried it, just cant gobble on a tube call, and dont want to lugg around a gobble shaker.
