A skeet load or a cheap shotgun shell just in case a extra close shot is needed?
After what happend last year I think I am going to put one in my vest.
I helped the brother call in a gobbler last year and he had to shoot through some brush but we didn't think it was a far shot. Turned out to be about 40-45 yards. We thought he hammered him though! He shot and the turkey flopped for about 15-30 seconds and then went still! We sat there for a little while because we had other turkeys gobbling but nothing ever showed. So we went to get his bird and I went to reach for his legs to pick him up and the dang thing jumps up and starts running circles around us! He finally put another shell in him but if we would have had a skeet load or something he wouldn't have had to use another turkey load. Of corse something like that may never even happen again.
Whatcha ya'll think?

No, I wouldn't. I have had the same experience except the bird I am referring to flew before he started running. I actually had to chase the bird until he got tangled in a clump of greenbrier.

But, I don't think carrying a game load so that you don't have to use another turkey load is practical or would even be effective.

I am using an over/under this year. One idea I am trying is:
- First Barrel - extra full choke with number 6s
- Second Barrel - modified choke with number 4s

My reasoning is the second barrel will only be for insurance. For example, a bird is within 40 yards, and I fire the first barrel. At that range, I can safely assume the bird has been hit. The second barrel is then used in case the bird immediately takes flight after the shot or as I go to retrieve the bird, he takes flight. A more open choke and larger shot will then be used to take the bird out of the air.

Xtended Range in the Wheel House
Winchester Supreme Turkey Load in the magazine incase I miss which has occured more than one occasion :D
