anyone ever?

Not illegal.

I like to change locations if I need to, and I would think that it might be easier to get busted.

No, turkeys can pick you off much faster in a tree then they can on the ground. It was illegal where I got started hunting, and even if it wasn't, it wouldn't fit my style.

well............I know it's not illegal. I also know that this past deer season, I had hens, jakes and toms around me within easy gun range more than once...

to me, if you get in an existing blind, like a box blind or even a ladder stand with sides to it and set up a decoy set so the birds won't be looking at you and more at the decoys, it would make things a bit more open.

where I hunt is very thick and the turkeys are hard to kill simple because they often come in silent and they are on you before you even know they are there.....

this was, maybe you can spot him before he gets too close....

I guess this wouldn't be such a good idea in open terrain, but where I am , especially in the spring, sitting on the ground limits your view down to maybe 30-50 yards and unless you are ready a bird can suddenly appear without notice.....

it seems that these birds have learned to come in quiet simply because of the lack of visible area....

I like to run and gun too much. That's why I enjoy turkey hunting so much...

For me, turkey hunting is hard work, deer hunting is a breeze (sitting on stand all day).

I like runnin and gunnin also so being confined to a stand just doesn't appeal to me,even if it was thick like your area is,just would have to think of another way to kill'em.

Never have, but wouldn't hesitate to crawl up in a barn loft or elevated stand, etc., if I thought it would give me an advantage in a particular situation.

It would probably work after the leaves come out to give you some cover. Several are killed each year while archery deer hunting from tree stands. I even killed a gobbler last year with my bow while deer hunting from a tree stand.

Don't think I will do it in the spring tho.........too much fun moving around and it's much easier to kill one with a shotgun than a bow.

Lots of people use ground blinds which would be similar.

Man, I am ready to go.

I killed a longbeard once from a buddy stand. After a long days hunt I was on my way out and decided I would climb up in it to make sure it was still secure. Got up there sat down to rest for about 5 minutes and decided I would hit the box one last time before I climed down and headed home. When I did a long beard sounded off 50 yards behind me. He walked up on the ridge next to me I shot and missed, then he took off flying strait towards me and I killed him in mid air, probably a 30 yard shot. First double bearded gobbler I killed.

Probably safer as well.
yeah. sitting 12' up in the air is a lot safer than sitting on the ground. lol :D

I was referring to having a decoy spread in front of you and the fact that you would not be sitting at the same level.

But, I'm sure that you are one of those guys that have "been there....done that" in just about every turkey hunting situation.

I mean, after all, you never know who might spot your decoy's from 300 yards away and try to put a "stalk" on them!

LMAO

You didn't hurt my feelings.........just trying to get your attention. LOL

Apparently, it worked!

turkeys spend a lot of time watching the sky for hawks. depending on how much leaves you got around you, you will probably stand out. now if you was in a box blind, differnet story.

actually had a redtail hawk nail Tndoe's decoy the first time we went hunting together. it was one of those self-inflating decoys. the hawk came from over the trees behind us and dive bombed the decoy.
