Was at the NWTF show this weekend and was pretty amazed by the amount of vendors that make their own custom calls. Anyone here make their own calls?

Thought it might be something I would like to try in my spare time....

Thanks!

I've made my own wing bone yelpers. It's cool to have a gobbler respond to a call you put your own time into.

Never tried a slate call or box call but would like to give it a shot some time.

i made a few box calls ended up giveing them to some hunting buddies, their are fairly simply to make. i made them from ceder planks[ closet lining] you buy at home depot or lowes

I made some aluminum slate calls, made & sold 10 of em to my friends for $5, I've taken several birds using em too, as well as some of the guys that bought em.

Speaking of the custom calls at the NWTF show. There was an aluminum slate that was set in oak, made by Lon Trice, it took 3rd place. That was the best sounding slate call I have ever heard or used. I tried it, left & went & had lunch. I kept thinking about that call & made up my mind to go back & buy 1. I get to their booth & that call is $60 for the slate & $15 for the striker. I'll just stick with the ol Primos True Double ($7). It's been layin em in the shade for years.

I been turning friction calls for a few years. Get a few request from some of the local banquets for some calls to put in their auctions.

Thanks buckdead, there are a lot of talented call makers at the show, makes it tuff to get that first place.

Stoner I like your calls, if you ever want to swap a slate or glass call let me know.
