I am planning on taking a muzzleloader after old tom openning morning. I have a Knight TK2000 and a Encore Muzzleloading turkey gun. I just have from now till the 2nd to try them since I haven't shot either one. Any of you gents use one of these to bag your birds? reflex264

Here is the Encore with my 835

I shot the Encore yesterday. I played with several different loadings. TC recomends BP or pyrodwx RS. Their recomendation for the turkey loads is one of their wad cups over 120grs BP with 1 5/8 oz shot. Scattered shot everywhere. I know they don't recommend it but I loaded 80gr of 777. Much better. The problem is the cup is melting and leaving a ton of plastic in the choke tube. I am going to use a bore butter wad on the powder under the shot cup tomorrow and see what happens. reflex264

IN ADDITION to the minimal "big game" hunting license most turkey hunters would legally be carrying to turkey hunt with a modern shotgun --------
You need a MUZZLELOADER permit, just like you would for hunting deer with a muzzleloader.

Reason I bring this up is because many turkey hunters (who do not buy a Sportsman License) may normally wait until Fall to purchase their "muzzleloader" permit, maybe having never considered it was a requirement for Spring Turkey hunting should you use a muzzleloading shotgun.
(Your past deer season's muzzleloader permit has expired as of 02-28-2011.)

If you kill a turkey with your muzzleloading shotgun (and don't possess a muzzleloader permit, sportsman, or lifetime license), then your harvested turkey would be an illegally taken bird. Possession of an illegal turkey could put you in deep doodoo.

Likewise, if you plan to use your bow (or crossbow) for turkey hunting, be sure you've purchased your "archery" permit.

Good point Wes. I always buy sportsman license because I bow, gun and muzzleloader hunt.

Going to shoot the TK2000 today. reflex264

Well I don't exactly have the knight figured out. I would limit my shots to 35 yards based on the patterns I got today. I am going to try a few things that I think will help. I shot the encore with the bore butter wad on top of the powder with the shot cup on top of it. Much better 40 yard birds aren't safe. I drug out the 28 gauge and got a very nice pattern from the special full choke and W-W HS 1oz #6 load. 35 yards won't be a problem with it. reflex264

I am shooting the Encore again today. I am going to try 70grs of American select under 1 5/8 oz of #5 shot. Until I can talk to the original owner of the Knight I think I will be wasting powder and shot. The Encore is very promising. reflex264
