I planted some yearling crab apple trees in December in tree tubes. They are all full of leaves in the tubes but the leaves look like they are getting eaten by something. Do I need to spray with anything or just let be? My first time planting trees.

I spray mine with a Deer Repellant that I get at Lowes. I just have about 20 fruit trees so it's a manageable number to do it by hand. This stuff has worked so far to keep the deer away.

Or are you talking about insect damage?? The only real trouble I've had there is Japanese Beetles and I spray with Sevin a couple times each year for them.

It seems a bit early for beetles. You should be able to tell if the leaves are bitten (clean cut) off the stems or chewed off by insects. Either way, you need to plan on spraying them for bugs anyhow.

They are still in the tubes so deer can't get to leaves. It looks like insects eating the leaves
