Anyone do it around Knoxville? I am wanting to start customizing my arrows and could use some good advice. A buddy of mine here at work does water dipping and I am going to let him try one of my arrows this weekend.

I don't dip mine, instead I spray them. Scrub the shafts with a scotch-brite pad and then clean throughly with acetone--this is THE most important step! Then tape of the area with painters tape and spray with white lacquer. After you spray with white lacquer you go over with a fluorescent color held at a step angle for a fade effect. Or you can build hour own cresting jig for under twenty bucks or so. When gluing the fletchings on, you have to use gorilla glue impact formula or you will have fletching adhesion problems. I well post better pics when I get back home Friday if needed.

I also spray mine. Prep as TNDeerGuy says. I use Krylon spray, three really light coats will give you some awesome looking arrows. Then glue fletchings on with super glue gel. Absolutelly don't use Bohning Platinum glue with this. Unless you really like gluing fletchings back on.

If they don't turn out how you like, steel wool it off and start over.

That is exactly what I was wanting to do! I don't have anyequipment to do this, but my birthday is coming up, and I told the wife how to get on amazon and look at my wish list;) I just had my arrows wrapped and fletched but I think I can handle this.

Those are beautiful arrows by the way, I guess the only limitation is your imagination I suppose!

yeah Andy does some good stuff, i use to do all my own the way he does them but he turned out to be much better at it then me lol so i just let him do mine now as well hahah

NOT FAIR!!!!! An archer should mark HIS OWN arrows! lol

I have been looking at different fletching jigs as well. I need a "startup" list of everything to jump right into it. Any suggestions on jigs/glues etc. I am on a budget, so I cant get anything fancy, just need a total cost and a list. Thanks Fellas.

haha to be fair I was the reason he got started in it, however the grasshopper quickly surpassed the teacher!

the ones in blue above are ones he did for me and they turned out pretty dang awesome. I tell him what i am envisioning and get the fletching colors i like and he does his thing.

the glue part is easy, just use superglue or gorilla glue. Changes are you can make a cresting jig with most things you already have OR you can buy a small motor (like sewing maching motor) from ebay for pretty cheap to use as the spinner.

You can build your own cresting jig for just a few dollars. I will post instructions once I get back home from Wisconsin. By the way,REN....the price just went up.....lol

Im originally from Janesville. . . .Small world. Still have a cabin in black river falls though!

Wallaye is the best dam shore lunch ever! You actually get off on the Milston exit, hang a right, and keep going to Bear Road. If I had the chance to go back up there and deer hunt again I would! Land of the giants, Jackson County Wisconsin!!!!
