I'm in the market for a new dozen arrows. I will be buying just the shafts and building them myself. My last dozen Gold Tips had 4 that would not spin. Even after squaring them. Although they may be cheap, if I'm only getting 8 good arrows, that's not such a good deal. What make/model of arrow do you shoot, and why?

I like Carbon Express
If well fletched they hold together well even thru a WB
They advertise .025 straightness and they seem to all fly the same out of my bow

I shoot Golt Tips. XThunters 5575 for hunting and the GT ultralight 400 for target.

I use them because they are durable and they have always had good flight with my set up.

Which GT arrows did you buy that wouldn't spin? next time you cut them. Cut half off the front and half off the back of the arrow. This will help with straightness because a lot of the variance that you get is further away from the center of the arrow.

I have also shot carbon ex and carbon impact. I felt safer shooting with the gold tips.

I am shooting Gold tip xt hunters now 5575, but i used to RELIGIOUSLY shoot beman 400g camo hunters. I actually shoot both, but mostly just the gold tips now.

I don't think I would shoot anything but Carbon Impact if you gave them to me. They are the toughest arrow I have put thru my bow. If an arrow can survive me it can survive anything. stik has one that has been thru 3 deer and finally broke on the 4th. First 3 were pass thrus. His current no. 1 has been thru 2 so far.

How many trees have you shot ? :D

Redhead Carbon Fury are real good arrows for the money. I have shot them for years. I think they are 49.99 a dozen with 4" vanes and 54.99 for 2" blazers at bass pro.

Which species?? I have several kinds that have an arrow hole in them.I like pines the best...good sap on the arrow when you cut it out. I am a great shot on trees .....dead center every time!
Why, I even have more tree kills than DavidJ :D

My problem with the Carbon Impacts that I shot was that they have some sort of coating on the outside. When I went to refletch and the coating came off and exposed fibers.

You have to be easy when stripping but it won't hurt if you take off the shiny part. I strip mine and then us sandpaper to get off the leftover residue. I have some that have been refletched a few times.

That's the same way I do my arrows. I didn't have any problem with the arrows after I refletched them it just made me nervous to see some of the layerd graphite underneath.

I can understand that. The first time I did mine I thought I had messed up. Had 'em checked and they were ok.

I have shot the Carbon Express and the Carbon Impact. I can't complain with either one. The Impacts are a bit lighter in weight but I get great flight out of them. The Expresses were great too. I shot 7 animals with the same arrow and shot my 8th one , a groundhog whose tough a** hide broke the shaft. With the Impacts I do prefer the orange or green series(straightness). If you shoot a lot you can tell the difference in the arrows. Price-wise the orange and green series are a little higher. But great arrows no doubt.

The Carbon Impacts were also my favorite arrow but since EWA went out, I have no idea where to get new ones at so I had to swap shafts. I also went to a 60 pound bow so that made my 6500s too stiff since I'm actually just shooting like 51 pounds.

But I have been playing with a LOT of shafts and for my setup I finally found the best flying arrow of all that I've shot. They are very reasonably priced too. Easton LightSpeeds. I'm shooting the 400 spine. Now don't let the name fool you...they are still considered a "normal" weight shaft for carbon shafts. I think they weigh 7. something grains an inch. Fletched with 2" Blazers and a 75 grain screw in tip, my shafts weigh 338 grains...which does sound really light, but considering the 51 pounds I'm shooting...that's pretty heavy for that weight. I'm gonna shoot 3Ds and hunt with them.
