ASA ?

Bc it makes guessing the range a bigger part of the game. A bow at 280 will drop about an inch per yard (especially at 30+ yds) bows that are set up for IBO can easily be shooting 300 fps.

I like them both for the realistic practice...game wise I say ASA is a little tougher bc of the 12 and now 14 rings location.

I agree that the speed does make it much more challenging to judge yardage. And the 12 and 14 rings are tough too. You either get a 14 or a 5. ouch.

Would you agree if I said that a quicker bow is not as forgiving as a slower bow. Making the IBO a little tougher in the aspect of form?

The 280 speed limit is an equalizer. For some with shorter DLs it is impossible to get more than 280 without voiding their bow's warranty. Just like baseball has rules regarding bats and the PGA has rules regarding clubs, the ASA has equipment rules to keep the playing field more level. There is also wear and tear on targets for faster setups. I know, you can argue that the KE is still high for somebody who could be shooting 300+ fps, but adds arrow weight to keep the speed to ~280. It's just part of the reasoning the ASA gives.

It doesn't hurt that the primary rule writer for the ASA has a short DL either :D

It depends on what feature(s) of the bow make it faster. If it's fast due to a really short brace height then it's probably less forgiving. If it is fast b/c of dual cams and pre-loaded limbs like the HCA or PSE bows then it might be just as forgiving as a slower single cam bow with the same geometry and still be faster.

Didn't IBO change the rule to state that a shooter can go under 5gr/lb as long as he/she doesn't exceed 280fps? I might have heard bad info on that.

I see what you're saying about forgiveness. Good point.

You are correct as long as you aren't above 280 you can have a lighter arrow than 5 gns per pound.

i'd blow my bow up if I went less than 5 grns per pound.LOL
