AT&T is discontinuing their 2G network service at the end of this year. This will make 2014 and older model Covert Code Black and other like cellular cameras obselete. Covert is offering a discount on new cameras but you must send them your old camera. I asked them if I could keep the old camera since it still works like a regular camera and they said no. You can buy a new camera for $200 or less depending on its age. If anyone knows a way around this I'd love to hear it.

I hate that David, but I knew the day was coming. I recall reading about it year or so back, but I had lost track of time as far as when the 2G network would be obsolete.

I'll probably just wait till after the season and pickup a couple newer ones on sale. They have lasted longer than most of my previous cameras.

the new 12.0s are great. you don't have to buy a sim card(covert provides it), meaning you don't have to go into the AT&T store, and you don't have to deal with janky At&T customer service. all the pics come to an app you download on your phone for free. you can buy one plan to cover multiple cameras $14.99/ month for 5000 pics a month. All of camera settings can be adjusted on the app. battery life and cell service is way better. I currently have 4 running in KY and I am very happy so far.

I recently sent in a malfunctioning 2014 Code Black 3G that was out of warranty. The screen would not come on, so the camera was unusable. They offered me the 2016 AT&T version for $150.

I just bought a Covert Blackhawk (Verizon model). Just put it out and it seems to be working ok. What kind of battery life are you seeing? I am running 12 lithium Energizer's in mine. In the non wireless camera I can easily get a year out of these batteries. Hoping for 3-4 months with it set up on a trail and not over corn or salt.

Does the switch get turned at midnight or could it be phased out over time? Too bad you just can't send back and get a new part soldered on it.

It depends where you live in the country. In some areas they have already turned down the 2G network. The spectrum is being refarmed to provide more bandwidth to 3G/4G users.
