I have been bowhunting since I was 14 which makes 28 years of bowhunting for me. I have always been a finger tab shooter and will always be because that is what I enjoy the most. I try to keep things as simple as possible. I have one nock point on my string, an arrow rest, and a sight pin. This has worked well for me all of this time. The last 5 years since I bought my Mathews Ovation I have been trying to go to a faster setup. I guess I got caught up in the speed game with my bowhunting buddies, though I have been just as successful in the field as anyone else. This in my opinion has cost me a few deer along the way. The solocam bow is just not as forgiving for a finger shooter. This year I have returned to my Huntmaster rest with plunger button and my Easton xx78 2216 arrows fletched with 5 inch feathers with a strong helical and 125 grain broadheads. I have been shooting better with this bow now than I ever have. No problem with broadhead and field tip discrepancies, noise level is way down and my groups are to my satisfaction again. I am going into this season with more confidence than ever. I very seldom shoot past 30 yards and the majority of my shots come at 15-20 yards. If they don't get in close they get a pass.
Looking back, I can't believe I let myself get away from what had worked so well for me in the past. If you have something that works for you then stick with it. I wish everyone great luck this coming season. I hope this post makes everyone think about what they expect out of their equipment and themselves.
