Oats were spread over plot 1st of March no piles or rows. Game Warden says plots are not legal entire season unless disk in. We had intentions of keeping hens close so they might nest near by but not baiting. oats are sproutng but seed is on top of the ground. Someone is going to disk in before hunting did yall know this was not legal?

It sounds like baiting with seed on ground idk it seems if the seed was not there it would be legal

if u disk the ground with the intent of making a plot it should be legal. but if u broadcast the seeds on the ground thats baiting

Just wanted to know what ya'll thought. I thought if it had sprouted it would be good to hunt but was wrong.

So you spread oat on the ground to keep Turkeys close? and you don't consider that baiting? Am I missing something

I would know it was wrong throwing it out up until season started but did not know even if it was sprouted it was not legal. I learned it does not matter how long it has been there no matter the seed condition it not legal entire season.

Awesome, it doesn't matter now. With the wording you used in the first post you have convicted yourself. My advice would be to disc it under, call your local game warden, have him come out and give you his assessment. I wouldn't risk hunting there unless twra said okay. The penalty for baiting is severe, and will leave a mark.

I actually had the very same thought earlier today. With steady warm temps and easy rain coming I was gonna plant some buckwheat in some of my roads to help manage erosion and create some organic material as green manure to turn in later in the year.

No way I'll plant it now. My philosophy is if in doubt...don't.

I did call and ask them to come out and check it after it is disk in but they said they did not need to check it. I would feel better if they would check it before it was hunted.

I learned something today for sure also. I guess it is all in the intent and not how much time has passed.

If your intent is to manage erosion and you do it properly you should be ok. No different than hunting over freshly planted corn field. It is the intent that would get you in trouble...such as throwoing out seeds to keep hens close by....
