A statement from known NCAA-killer Tom Mars — the lawyer who represents Tennessee's Spyre Sports NIL collective — put out a couple of statements, as well, and those statements said with zero wiggle room that Spyre hadn't broken any rules.



These eyes have seen and these ears have heard fear with certain NCAA issues in the past, and not ounce of that has been detected in this matter. Tennessee does not seem scared. It seems angry. Those are two very different things.

Things reached a point Wednesday where the NCAA released a statement of its own. Clear, concise and cogent, it was not. It was a corporate word salad, but interestingly it included a warning that a lawsuit "would exacerbate what our members themselves have frequently described as a 'wild west' atmosphere, further tilting competitive imbalance among schools in neighboring states, and diminishing protections for student-athletes from potential exploitation."

Exploitation? Really? Remember that reference of projection a moment ago? There's you some projection.

With the swift response from the TN contingent, this appears to have been planned for a while, while they waited for the NCAA to take the bait.

TN has gotten some great publicity for standing firm from various other schools.

Anybody read an explanation as to why Virginia jumped on the lawsuit?

While the Tennessee case is in its infancy, it would not be surprising to see the DOJ once again join in a suit against the NCAA, bringing their vast resources and highly skilled federal attorneys with them -- an unfavorable situation for the NCAA
 
Plowman will get a cookie and a trip to the prize box for her efforts ..but in the end the NCAA list the rules and regulations of NIL on its website and I feel certain sends that information directly to the institutions it governs .


In the end the NCAA will find a team that is already on probation for Impermissible paid visits, direct payments to student athletes, unethical conduct and most of all a failure to monitor the program. I feel certain the failure to monitor the program and the outlined "cheating culture" that the NCAA has labeled on the vols in the last NCAA violation hand down will likely come back to haunt them in this investigation.



Flexing is not going to help. Just ask Norvell how that worked out.

At least @prstide has a functioning brain and makes logical points. You're more lost than last year's Easter eggs.
 
All these bamers better pray Tennessee wins, they have 2 dozen schools they are investigating and you know bama is one, heck that might be a reason saban left

Dah, the rule was'nt in effect 1 1/2 yrs ago, if it was why are they waiting that long, just 6 months ago they claimed Tennessee was a leader in doing things by the book, also we asked for meetings to discuss NIL with ncaa and they declined! WTH

Seems like a mess and a half to me, Tennessee asked to talk about NIL rules, got declined, and now there's drama.

Yeah this was after the NCAA said they wanted to meet with as many University's as possible.

Tennessee "Hey NCAA Can the Chancellor and AD meet up to to discuss NIL rules no one in the country is clear on?"

NCAA "NO!"

NCAA months later "your now under investigation for rules NO one understands"

Might I add:
NCAA "We know that we took no leadership on this NIL thing from the start, and provided even less guidance and leadership after the initial court rulings that legalized NIL, thus perpetuating the current "Wild, Wild West" scenario. But we now want to try to put the toothpaste back into the tube through unilateral penalties rather than providing clear guidance through collaborative rules that everyone has been asking for all along."

But yet, They are still people that think Tennessee is in the wrong for filling a lawsuit ...

I would not want to be facing down the barrel of the NCAA WHEN the next set of cheating violations occur at tn. Because it's been documented the vols have a cheating culture.

Rubbing the NCAA the wrong way this time may or may not pay off. Remains to be seen. But there is always next time.
