I have written about this before, but for review:
Rocky Mountain Gator was apparently sold to Bass Pro Shop who has now added their label.

UTGrad posted an article about a broadhead that Randy Ulmers brother has developed. It is essentially the SAME broadhead.
(although I can almost guarantee you the BPS costs less)
THe BPS has NO o-ring, or set screw. It also has no rear sharnened blades.

I have killed MANY deer with the GATOR. THe longest was a 42 yard shot on an eight point, RIGHT THROUGH BOTH SCAPULA.
"It was like throwing an axe through the deer"!

They are GREAT heads, as I am sure will be Ulmers. As are Rage!

True except the new broadhead cuts on both sides of the blade and you can lock the blades with a set screw so you can practice with the actual broadhead. I believe there will be nylon set screws that weigh less than a grain. These will only hold up for about 10 shots but it will also come with a steel set screw that weighs 3 grains and will allow a shooter to practice all spring and summer with their broadhead. The two sided bladed won't be any help if a shooter gets a clean pass through but might help if the broadhead is in the animal as it is running off.

Oh let me add the Ulmer head currently as a prototype has a trocar style tip while Rage and Gators have the coc head. I prefer the trocar tip for durability. I had the tip on a Rage bend.

Good point UT...the cut on contact head will bend on some shots. In fact, like Rage (IMO), the heads are pretty much one time only for me. But at about 10.00 each, rather than 14 or so each, just doesn't hurt as much.

As far as practice goes, I have shot all kinds of arrow wt/vane/feather configurations with ZERO accuracy problems with the Gators OR Rage. I will definitely look at the new Ulmer heads but COST will be the deciding factor.

I doubt I will EVER find a head I like as much as the Magnus Stinger though.

And the price simply can't be beat.

In fact I just sent 6 back for FREE replacement a couple days ago. With the pics I sent in, I look forward to a couple new Tee shirts as well. Simply the BEST company I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with.

I've heard excellent things about Magnus and their lifetime guarantee. I'm the same way about Black Gold sights. The have an unconditional lifetime guarantee and had a sight mount crack and they replaced the part after a simple phone call.

If the Ulmer heads are not priced like the other $39.99 heads ($29.99 for the BPS Gator as you mentioned)I will stick with Grim Reaper Razortips. They are a traditional over-the-top expandable but a proven broadhead that flies true. My only complaint is the entry hole is not as impressive with the Grim Reapers since the blades are expanding as the head is entering the hide. Grim Reapers still kill deer dead and leave good blood trails.

There are some really good things being said about the BPS Gators over on Archery Talk plus some awesome entry and exit pics. I'm definately impressed.

Will see what the Ulmer head is priced at but given they are going to include set screws with the heads plus a possible camo version I will say it will be over $40.

I too an looking forward to the Ulmer heads.... But only if the price is right. Either way I believe that I an done with the rages. I've shot 4 deer, one pass through.

And one other thing... Besides the locking blades, reverse cutting blade, and the set screw, what's the difference between the Ulmer head vs. Schwacker?

Yeah... But the design and the way the broadhead works, it's identical!

There are not a lot of options for a rear deploying broadheads to work. What are your expectations? I mean, this head is similar to others but it has key differences that are attractive.

Anybody got good reports on the Schwacker? I'm hearing really good stuff on the T3. The G5 T3 is the broadhead that is getting good feedback and I really like the design.

Do the bps gators work like the schwacker and ulmer design? I was trying to look @ bps online and couldn't tell from the pics.
