Got2 cheap moultrie trail cams that are a couple years old. It costs a fortune in "D" batteries to run. Deer duty in the fall and chicken coop protection the rest of the year.

I want to dump the D's and get a rechargeable battery(s) with greater capacity. Anybody done this?

It takes 6- "D" batteries so that should be 9v...

Any tips would be appreciated.

Do you run a straight 12 v or do you have something to step down the voltage? Diodes or something like that?
Thanks!!

I run straight 12 volts. What Model do you have? Most all of the newer (2007 and newer) Moultrie's have a external 12 volt port. They will use power from the external battery and when it gets low the camera will switch over and use the internal batteries.
