I have seen only one bear while hunting. It suprised me so much when I saw it, I didn't shoot. Question is those of you that have killed a bear, would you do it again? Is the meat good? Are they hard to clean?

never killed one but FOR ME its just not something i have a passion to kill. Bears and Wolves for some reason have a deep beauty about them that just wont let me hunt them. Bobcats as well....

nothing against those that do, but for me just not something i ever have a passion to do.

having said that i have heard for a few that the meat is actually very good to eat but you have to clean them and cut them up pretty quick due to the internal heat of the animal. The 2nd part may not be true but they swear by the meat being good.

Would I do it again? Yes but only if it were bigger than the one I shot last week. I'm a deer hunter that got a shot at a bear. The meat seemed really greasy and not as lean as deer. I quartered it up and worked it up the same as I do deer. I've got a friend that swears its the best wild game meat out there. Guess ill see. Ad far as cleaning them. Its was definitely different. And just like Ren said, the heat was pretty extreme. I totally see how it could spoil very quickly.

Yes, the meat is good. If it spoils trust me you will know it.
Makes great sausage, bake steaks in oven, remove and dredge in flour then pan fry. Very good.
Must really remove all fat that you can. They do have a high greasy fat content.
