one of the toms we killed last year had beard rot. when this happens, will the beard ever grow back?(not on the one we killed, DUH!!! but on a live bird

My understanding is that beard rot is caused by lack of melanin. This causes the beard to be brittle and susceptible to falling off. I don't think the beards can grow back but I may be wrong. My dad and I shot two this year that had rot.
