Well went to do some work Saturday on some downed trees.

noticed tons of tracks and thought to myself "I have got to get here in the AM and see whats going through"

Well Sunday went in real early to a blind already in place.

took a nap waiting on daylight to break...

noticed 1 bird off to my right, while watching her I see 3 others fly down and join her.

Next thing I know I have 7 hens working the muddy field in front of me.

I kept thinking one was a jake because I kept thinking I could see a beard.

no mistaken at 20 yards, it was a bearded hen

3rd bird ever
2 of which are bearded hens, what are the odds on that???

think I'm naming my 870 the "HEN HALTER"
just for those that like the barrel decals (where do I order?)

Will post pics when I can get into my photobucket account.
couldnt remember the password and locked out now.

1st hunt of the year so I'm 1 for 1.

Congrats! that's an awesome kill and I would say yes on the barrel decal.

Last year there was a huge old tom with a real long beard, and his bearded hen behind our house for a couple days. It would be cool to get one in gun range... if I do I will probably pull the trigger.

My first two turkeys I ever killed were bearded hens. Both had nice thick 8 inch beards. I still have them hanging next to some of my big gobbler beards. They actually hold their own.

They are not as rare as some think, although those are the only two I have seen in the wild. It is probably pretty rare for guys like you and me to kill two bearded hens so early in our turkey hunting career though.

Congrats on the bird!

Thats cool. I have killed a bearded hen 2 yrs in a row now. Never had a chance to shoot one in 20 yrs of Turkey hunting and then killed one 2 yrs in a row!! LOL but you definitely have me beat with 2 of 3!! Congrats!

cool, i killed 2 bearded hens and could have #3 but big tom was just out of range at the time so i let her walk, congrats on the kill!

If it had a decent beard I would pull the trigger..... seen one on a hunt a few years back, but I was after the gobbler that was tailing her.

finally was able to log into photobucket
