What renegade said, the box and slate are much easier to master.  They've been the death of the majority of turkeys in the last few decades. Mouth calls are great, but a lot easier to hit a wrong note on. However, Sounding good is only part of the battle, learning when to call and what calls to make is the part that only getting out there can teach you.
