Best All Around Deer Caliber

Best is so subjective, but I'd say go with a .308, plenty of bullet choices on the shelf and will kill anything in this region. I personally like the .270 for it's overall ability to be used anywhere in North America, but I reload so bullets are not a problem
lot of people recommend the 30-06 for its versatility as well

Yea, back in the day it was THE caliber of choice out west, but the .270 is flatter shooting and can be loaded up and down the weight scale depending on animal. I started using the .308 for the past few years because I rarely have a shot beyond 100 yards and my Rem700 is very accurate at that range. I still like my .270 but my bullet of choice has become scarce so saving it for when I get a chance on bigger game.

I mean I wouldn't be against hunting with a magnum but I have always used a 30 caliber gun
Really, as far as deer go, a magnum isn't really necessary. Now if you are planning on larger big game animals in the future a larger caliber would be better all around. For deer I have used .243, .270, 30-06. Also have used .50 cal. PRB muzzleloaders. Even used a 7.62x39 sks for antelope.
