I bought a Bowtech Assassin a couple weeks ago and its one of the most quite bows I have owned. I got it for around $600 and tax. I also liked the Hoyt Vector 32. Outdoor Life ranked 10 bows a couple months ago and the Vectoe 32 was their pick. The Mathews Heli-m was the loudest bow they tested! Their really is no best bow. Don't get hung up one one name brand of bow and try as many as you can. Then pick what you like best and can afford.
 
The best bow for you is the bow you shoot best with . Ask anyone on a forum and you will get as many different answers as replies . The best bow for them is thier current bow . That bow might not be the best for you .
What I do is go to a proshop that sells several different brands , pick out a few bows with the specs. , correct draw length within my draw weight range that feel good in my hand and have a good draw cycle and shoot them side by side . I pick the bow based on smoothness of the draw cycle , quiet at the shot , and stable at full draw .
 
Take Radar's advice above...and let the bow choose you after shooting a bunch.

With you being in Tellico, you are within an hours drive of bow shops that carry nearly every brand of bow in the top 10 bow manufacturers. The Bowhunter Pro Shop in Maryville carries Hoyt, PSE, Elite, Strother, Bear, and Martin...so there's ya 6 different bow manufacturers under one roof that you can go test shoot. Then Benton Shooters has Mathews and Mission bows, but that's all they carry. BowTech may be the hardest for us here...as only a couple in our area carry them. Turk's in Ooltewah, TN carries them and another place in Powell, north of Knoxville but I have never heard of them or been to their shop. Sneaky Outdoors in Cleveland carries PSE, Elite, Strother, and G5 and by far has the best prices on them locally...but he's a small shop and will only carry a few bows to shoot...usually just one or two of each of the more popular models in the lines he carries. If you wanted something he didn't have on the rack, he could order it for you. I will say this too...NOW is the time to be buying, as most all the bow manufacturers have released their 2013 lineups and dealers are scurrying to get rid of the 2012s so that they can stock their stores with 2013s.
 
Bought a bowtech assassin last year and I love it, but bows are all about what you like. Best bow I have ever shot was a Switchback XT, I still kick myself for not buying it at the time. Just shoot as many as you can and see what fits.

Got a new HHA for the Assassin being delivered today, cant wait to give it a try.
 
around 500 Im getting a Brute X for a grand Im getting a Vector Turbo with a set of Spot Hoggs and a Limbdriver rest...
but thats me. Main thing is shoot them all and see which one is the most comfortable to you.
 
It's all on your preference. Shoot as many as possible and see which one fits your liking the best. I shoot a Hoyt and I love it. But I plan on buying a new one in the spring and I'm gonna go through the same process.
 
PRIME by G5 is my new love. I have had Mathews, PSE, and Hoyt and the Prime is the best shooting bow of the three listed above. I absolutely love it.

Ditto all the above! Bows are like tennis shoes�what shoots and feels the best to one person may or may not shoot/feel the same to the next�shoot as many as you can without any predeterminations and go with what feels best to YOU.
 
Bows are like bourbons. I read all the reviews, but until I taste them it doesn't matter. I can spend $100 on a bottle someone gave great reviews, but it may not taste good to me. I've had my HCA for over ten years and it still performs great. Only shoots about 270 fps, but it is a very quiet 270. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I recommend shooting as many as possible. You have plenty of time before next fall to take a few on a test fire.
 
I have owned and killed with PSE, Bow Tech, Diamond, and Mathews.
I now own/shoot a Mathews Monster, but if I was getting a new bow at the end of season I think I would be looking at a Z7. You wont find a bow with a bigger following... except the Mathews Switchback.

If I was looking for mid-range price $500 or less... I would be looking for a used Switchback.

As others said, what works for some may not for you. Shoot them all! I agree you spend a little extra for the name sometimes, but sometimes confidence is worth it.
