Big bird down this morning at 6:14 a.m. in Maury County. I've never heard more gobbling in my life! He came in to breeding calls from across a fence and over a ditch. My first double-beard. 22 lb., 10" first beard, 6 5/8" second beard, 1 1/4" spurs. My second this year.

Below this is my first bird this year from last week. 24.5 lb., 10.5" beard, 1 3/8" spurs. Great season so far! Best gobbling year ever (in my experience).

I should've called it the breeding yelp and breeding (sex) purr. It's the three note progressive volume sound they make during sex. I had a hen fly down in front of him and thought I was screwed. Just figured the breeding calls would be the only thing that would take him away from her. The tom deke was over a breeding hen deke, and once he heard all the lovin', he broke strut and came in on a string.

Jebs: freaking amazing. 347 in 10" at 40 yds using 3 1/2" 7s. My buddy is Pro Staff for them and can sell them for $100.

I haven't shot them all, but of the ones I've shot, Jebs has been the best. I watched a man roll one at 87 yds using those Long Beard XRs and the Jebs. While I don't advocate a shot like that, stats like that sell chokes. I can't say that I don't mind knowing the extra distance is there. PM me if anyone wants my buddy's number. He's in college, so I'm proud to see him taking on this entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic.

87 yards with lead? I'm not saying it didn't happen so don't take it as a personal jab at you, but if it did, I'd say luck had a lot more to do with it than the choke.

Congrats on the bird!
