I started my vacation this past Thursday and started hunting in the mountains of North Georgia. After the morning hunt I was able to put a Georgia bird down at 2pm later that day...those mountains are not forgiving! The following day I loaded up for the opening of the Tennessee Season and headed to my farm in middle Tennessee. Opening morning i saw and heard more birds than I have even been a part of...we saw a total of 12 longbeards and 50 or so hens...all in all and amazing morning in the woods....following this my father was able to call in to birds and followed them with 2 clean misses haha....Monday morning was a different story though... as i set up i could hear the birds sounding off and eventually had 3 hens fly down to my decoys ( one being a bearded hen) as i watched for the gobbler to top the hill my dog decided he was going for a morning stroll and came right in to the decoys spooking all the birds..... needless to sway i was furious. So i loaded up went to a different farm a few minutes down the road....and man did i make the right decision. I was able to get a couple fired up and they put on a show....I was able to harvest my biggest bird to date....11 1/2 in beard w/ 1 1/2 in spurs and weighted a whooping 31.6 pounds on an official scale!!! Following this I was able to call in another bird the following morning ...10 in beard 1 1/4 spurs 23lbs and yesterday evening for my father ....23lbs double beard with 10in/ 9in beard and 1 3/16 spurs all in all it has been an amazing birthday week!!! I will do my best to post some picture soon!
