When do the best sales happen on hunting gear? Before or after season.

I actually see better deals before the season. For instance, $100 rebates on current model leupold VX3 scopes right now. Cabelas has Black Friday deals going, etc.

Basically I'm looking for everything except socks. I'm winging it now with multiple layers of clothes. But I'm thinking there has to be a better way than dressing like the Michelin man

If you have an Academy by you stop by as much as possible once the season is over. They usually start off at like 40-50% off and gradually drop more over a brief period. Watch Goodwill stores when everyone starts their spring cleaning.
